Walid Bandameh, a Baloch political prisoner held in Zahedan Central Prison, has reportedly been deprived of in-person visits with his family and child for more than six years since his arrest. His repeated requests for prison leave and transfer to Chabahar Prison have remained unsuccessful. According to reports received by Shiwar News, security agencies have made approval of these requests conditional on his cooperation with them and expressions of remorse.
Bandameh, born in 1996–1997 (Iranian calendar year 1375), is from the village of Garmbeit in Dashtiari County. He was arrested by Intelligence Ministry agents on 27 May 2020 (7 Khordad 1399).
According to reports received, he was held for 40 days in a security detention facility, where he was allegedly subjected to torture, before being sentenced to 12 years in prison on charges of “acting against national security.”
Since his arrest, Bandameh has been unable to meet his family in person because of the considerable distance between their home in Dashtiari and Zahedan Prison, as well as their inability to afford the travel expenses.
His child was born after his arrest and has never had the opportunity to meet their father.
According to information received, two requests for prison leave have been submitted on Bandameh's behalf over the past two years. Both encountered security and judicial obstacles.
After these attempts failed, he requested a transfer to Chabahar Prison so that his family could visit him with less financial burden and fewer travel difficulties. However, this request has also remained unresolved.
Reports received indicate that approval for his prison leave or transfer has been made conditional on cooperation with security agencies and expressions of remorse. These conditions have effectively prevented him from accessing prison leave and maintaining in-person contact with his family.
Bandameh's reported deprivation of family visits for more than six years, particularly the fact that his child has never met him, together with the refusal to transfer him to a prison closer to his family's home, has raised serious concerns about respect for the fundamental rights of this Baloch political prisoner and his family.
